Day 29 & 30: Leaving Yellowstone and Grand Tetons

I may have mentioned that the campsite in Yellowstone is a bit primitive.  This morning we woke up to a beeping noise.  They battery was dead.  Just by sitting still, the battery is drained by the smoke alarms and fridge.  The fridge runs on propane, but it needs a little bit of juice to run some electronics to regulate it.  We stuffed everything into the cooler that we needed for the day, moved some freezer things to the fridge and headed out for the day.

We did another loop.  We saw baby buffalo and a baby elk.  We drove on the edge Lake Yellowstone.  There were geysers and hot springs the bordered the lake.  This would be interesting in winter.  To see a frozen lake with a hot spring feeding into it.

Hot springs pop up anywhere.  We pulled into an overlook.  There was a fence around steam in the middle of the parking lot.  The question is: was the parking lot put here and then the hot spring formed, or was the hot spring there and that is where they wanted a parking lot.

And on the way back to camp, we had another buffalo jam.

The next morning I woke up and headed to the restroom.  Thankfully I woke up first instead of just walking.  The buffalo were walking through the campsite.  I would not want to be the guy in the tent watching buffalo roam around.

We are headed out of the park.  We stopped at another visitor center.  A ranger met us in the parking lot and told us to take the long way around to get to the visitor center because an elk decided to bed down in the tree near the short path.  So we took the long way around.

We are headed south.  The buffalo are eating grass where we were.  But now we are passing a lake that is still iced in.

We drove through the Grand Tetons.  There a beautiful mountains and lakes.  There are hikes, but they are too long for the little legs that we have, so we stopped at a few pull-offs, but mostly we put on miles.

We ended our day by crossing off another animal: pronghorn antelope.
