Day 2: Crossing the Rubicon

Today we crossed the Rubicon.  Up until here there was time to turn around and get home before anyone realized we left.  But we woke up and continued on our journey.

The first adventure started even before we hooked up the camper. The back wheels of the van got stuck in the mud. With a lot of pushing and shoving we managed to get the van unstuck. Luckily we were able to angle the van when hooking up the camper so that all four wheels were on rocks.

We went to visit Robert's family. There were four generations in one room.
Next stop was ash cave. We pulled into the parking lot and realized that there was no spot for our camper. So we backed up the camper into a parking spot and called it good enough. After a short walk we came to the cave. It was huge. The cave is not an underground type. It is basically a huge rock that was carved out. Also there was a hundred foot waterfall right outside the cave.

By this time it is about 5:30 but we decide to take a pit stop to see some petroglyphs. The roads to get there were smaller than we had originally thought they would be. Also the website for Leo's petroglyphs made it sound like it was a mile loop with the rocks along the route. Instead, when we arrived there was a wooden canopy which was covering a rock that had about 10 visible pictures. Still pretty cool but not what we were expecting.

After passing about fifty fields of dandelions we had to look up what was up. We learned about a new major crop in Ohio. They are growing Russian Dandelions to make rubber. So yes, Ohio grows was everyone else would call a weed.

Now it is about 7:00 and we are just starting for our campsite. We got to the campsite at 8:50. And we still had one more adventure. Backing into our site. The road was about one and a half cars wide. The campsite was long and narrow. It is dark out. On both sides of the site were trees. On the other side of the road was a cliff. We made it in at 9:15. At 10 we ate dinner and fell asleep exhausted. -E

Enjoying reading your blog, somewhat living vicariously through your adventures! So far, I've also learned something new from each day's blog entry. (Today's knowledge acquisition was that dandelions are a real farm crop.) Keep up the interesting entries!
