The organ is the 12th largest in the world with 11,000 pipes. A piano has 88 keys, so I don't know what the extra 10,912 pipes are for, but they are there.
All of the wood is white pine, which has very little grain and color. The Mormons liked other woods, so they painted grain onto the white pine.
The spiral staircase was used to bring up coal to heat the building.
We also took a tour of the Capital building. We filled out a small tour group; the other tour group was a school class. Idaho is very different from New Hampshire. Idaho uses the beehive to represent people working together for industry. There's also imagery of an 'X' of bound up leaves. This is to represent the people bound together with laws. This is in contrast to the New Hampshire's independent motto of "Live Free or Die".
Our final adventure of Salt Lake City was to get a rock chip repaired. The Safelite technician said that the average life of a windshield in the city was 9 months. I'm not sure it's that short, but my windshield's lifespan was less than a day in the city. Because the chip was near the edge where the stress of the glue is, the crack spread before it stopped. Let's hope there are no more blog posts about windshields.
